Wellington, Fl Polo. The United States Polo Association is located at the National Polo Center in Wellington. The NPC is located in the Wellington, Florida equestrian district that includes Wellington International, home of the Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF), the Adequan Global Dressage Festival (GDF) and Equestrian Sports Productions that produces horse shows throughout the year.

2025 National Polo Center Season - Wellington Schedule Announced

"The United States Polo Association (USPA) and the National Polo Center - Wellington (NPC) are pleased to announce the 2025 NPC winter season schedule, highlighted by the prestigious Gauntlet of Polo, NPC 16-Goal Championship, U.S. Open Women’s Polo Championship and National President’s Cup."

The George Miller Memorial will open the season on Sunday, December 29, 2024. The the Heritage Cup final is set for Sunday, January 5, 2025. General admission tickets and Sunday Brunch tickets will be available for purchase online later this summer at nationalpolocenter.com .

Winter Season Polo January - March every Sunday at 3.00 PM.

Come early and enjoy Sunday brunch on the outdoor patio including strawberries and cream. Alternatively, bring your own picnic basket and tailgate on the sidelines. You can reserve field side parking for tailgating by calling ahead.

2025 Gauntlet of Polo

The 2025 Gauntlet of Polo® will serve as the premier spectacle of the season, showcasing the highest level of the sport in America. The three-part series will begin with the C.V. Whitney Cup® February 7-23, continue with the USPA Gold Cup® February 24 - March 23 and conclude with the U.S. Open Polo Championship® March 24 - April 20. Any team that wins all three tournaments will be crowned the Gauntlet Champion.

Wellington Polo Winter Season

Winter season polo at Wellington begins late December as high goal polo matches are Sunday afternoon's favorite pastime at the National Polo Center in Wellington, Florida.

Gorgeous weather and exciting high goal polo combine to lure fans out every Sunday afternoon at 3.00 pm to meet friends, sip champagne, and munch on fresh strawberries.

Between chukkas serious polo watchers wander out onto the polo field to reset divots torn up by the thundering hooves of ten fearless polo ponies. If you have never watched this fast moving, daring sport, put it on your bucket list.

Rules of Polo

Polo is a fast-paced and strategic team sport played on horseback. It's often referred to as "The Sport of Kings." The game is played between two teams, each consisting of four riders. The main objective is to score goals by driving a small white ball into the opposing team’s goal using a long-handled mallet.

The game is typically played on a large grass field measuring 300 yards long and 160 yards wide. Matches are divided into periods called chukkas, each lasting seven minutes. There are usually six chukkas in a match, but this can vary depending on the level of play. Each player is assigned a specific position, which determines their role and responsibilities on the field. Number 1 is the most offensive position, focusing on scoring goals, while Number 4 is the most defensive, protecting the goal. Numbers 2 and 3 play more flexible roles, balancing offense and defense. Players must follow certain rules to ensure safety and fairness.

For example, the "Line of the Ball" is an imaginary line created by the ball's trajectory. Players must not cross this line in a way that causes dangerous situations. Another key rule is the "Right of Way," which gives priority to players who are closest to the ball's line. Polo requires not only athleticism and coordination but also keen strategic thinking.
